“Juror’s Choice” Exhibit is Open
Yesterday I delivered the prints for my solo show “Juror’s Choice” to The Fine Art Company in Hagerstown and today the exhibit is open.
I am exhibiting a selection of images that were accepted by jurors in various juried exhibits, including the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland, The Delaplaine Arts Education Center in Frederick, Maryland, and others. These images are among my most successful work since I began showing my photography in 2006.
I will be at the gallery for a reception on Saturday, December 13 from 6-8pm. The Fine Art Company is located at 18031 Garland Groh Blvd, Hagerstown, MD (Map). Come by and say hello.
Below is a sampling of the images that are in the exhibit. However, photographs viewed online are nice but I have always felt that ultimately, photography is about the print. The exhibit offers 26 large exhibit prints, some of which are the actual prints that were displayed in the juried exhibits. Naturally, the prints are available for purchase.
Rip, This is a ‘pre-notice’ for you as you came back to our area on your own and put out a book. I am putting together a show to hang at the Prairie Village Museum next year from May to Sept 15. A Gallery Talk will be given Tues or Wed the week of September the workshop is being held. We have that covered. What I don’t have and you may be interested in is some of your books on consignment for sale during the show. Is that something you would consider? I have no idea what sales might be but the museum gets a lot of visitation. Everyone coming into it will walk through the gallery area where our images will be on display. Everyone who has taken the workshop is invited to take part. I know anyone who sends an image will have it displayed. All matted and framed, museum mount. Clean and with wire for hanging, NO saw hook type of frames. If we have the room(not that many participate) we will most likely have more than one image on the walls for a few photographers. If you do have books there I will make sure to hang at least two of your images. More if we have the room. Am working on trying to get a couple of grants to help with shipping images. One way that works is to use metal Nielson type frames and ship them broken down, prints in a flat package and I can put them together here. Costs a lot less that way than shipping completed works. I have done custom framing for some years when I had a gallery so have experience in framing. Think about this a bit and let me know if you might consider some books and/or some images for the show. The general call will go out to one and all by next week with all the particulars we know. You and the two I have asked about giving the Gallery talk are the only contacts so far. Next week all will have info. Dan Smith

Rip,
Congratulations on the opening of your art exhibit.
Wish I could be there to see the large prints.
